Studio Dugnad, a team of designers aged six to thirty, contributed a lekstuga (Swedish for playhut) to Där Fantasin Bor, an exhibition celebrating playhuts in history. We were commissioned to reimagine the classic playhouse and investigate how a designed structure can represent play in 2021. We explored the possibility of what these play spaces might look like if children and adults collaborated in the design and build. Through digital and physical collaboration, we made a structure with ambiguity in mind. There are many ways to enter, many ways to play, and many ways to ‘be’. The building offers multiple opportunities that cannot be predefined, and children can dictate how they use the structure, no matter what age.
